The patented inflatable liner is an integral part of the helmet design; through an oral valve, the liner has the ability to inflate or deflate to create a perfect fit every time.
The liner offers an inherent buoyancy to the user, and if overboard and rising up to the surface will position user to rise with the helmet to take any impacts.
The grooves along the helmet are designed to increase the strength to weight ratio of the ABS shell. It also allows water to run off the back of the helmet to keep vision clear.
The neck is cut high to allow users full motion of their head to look all around them including above them in case of a helicopter rescue.
This also allows for life jackets and buoyancy aids to be used and not push the helmet up from the back and obscure user vision.
The open face design offers full peripheral vision with its wide aperature while protecting the sides and back of the head.

Designed from the water up, the Gecko Open Face helmet is built specifically for marine environments, drawing on over 30 years of expertise. Originally developed for the RNLI in 1995 to address the need for a lightweight, high-performance marine safety helmet, it has since become a trusted choice for organisations including the Royal Air Force, Police, and Ministry of Defence.
As the world’s first marine safety helmet, the Open Face meets the BSI marine safety standard PAS 028:2002. Its durable, ergonomic design has been continuously refined in collaboration with the RNLI and remains a benchmark in marine head protection.
The helmet is compatible with a range of accessories, such as visors, goggles, and communication systems. It also features two side inserts for mounting equipment like cameras or flashlights. Please note: this model is not compatible with ear defenders—consider our Cut Away model if that is a requirement.
