GMSH MK10 - Technical Facts
The MK10 Gecko Marine Safety Helmet (GMSH) has been brought about by the company's endeavours to provide the best possible level of protection and comfort for the user, based on feedback gained from previous models and current users.
Designed as a replacement for previous models of the GMSH, the MK10 includes a number of new features, such as increased shell size, inflatable liner and a remodelled visor.
The Shell
Unique Kevlar fibreglass construction, computer aided design to provide protection and interaction with existing equipment such as dry suit, lifejacket etc. Lightweight grooved design giving good strength to weight ratio. Visor
Available in Full or Half face versions in clear or a range of graded tints. The visor is specific to the helmet and manufactured in Lexan polycarbonate. It has good optical qualities and allows full peripheral vision and allows spectacles / sunglasses to be worn with the helmet. Press-studded to the helmet to allow easy attachment/removal, this allows the visor to "rip off " should it become hooked onto an object to aid prevention of neck injury. Provides facial protection from the wind, rain and spray along with hazards such as insect strike.
Strap Assembly
Retention system consisting of 19mm nylon webbing riveted to shell as 2-point fixing. Fastex buckle allowing one hand release and quick adjustment to strap length with patented "click" closure system. Buckle offset to side to aid access in emergency and prevent contact with windpipe. Strap has looped end to aid tensioning and sheathed in neoprene comfort tube to help prevent rubbing and slippage.
Inflatable Liner
An integral part of the helmet design; through an oral valve the liner has the ability to inflate or deflate to accommodate the user's head size. This system allows the tension of the fit to be adjusted according to the situation. Additional benefits are increased comfort, additional buoyancy and improved heat retention. Foam Comfort Pad
15mm thick circular comfort pad supplied provides cushion protection to the top of the head utilising open celled foam. Can be removed for washing and secured in place using a Hook and Loop system. Replacement pads are available from the company.
Ear Defence System
Removable nylon inserts designed to be fitted inside ear grommet (fitted from the outside). When in place provides ear protection from external noise such as engine, wind, or inclement weather. May be removed to improve acoustic clarity and provide entry point for a comms system if required (please see GRF10 headset) Replacement inserts are available from the company.
