Communications & Video Options

All GMSH Mk10 helmets are designed to allow integration with communications or video-communications equipment.

Communications Devices

RibCom2RT interfaced to an Icom M1EV VHF Marine radioAnyone who has travelled at speed in even a moderate sea in a small vessel fitted with a crew intercom will know of the significant advance in safety and comfort that such a system allows.

As speed increases so does wind and engine noise and well before operational speed is reached ordinary conversation becomes impossible. Crew members are obliged to move very close to one another and shout. Not only is this uncomfortable but it is dangerous since in anything other than a flat calm the boat is subject to sudden and violent motion. This can easily cause collision and skull injury between crewmembers. There is also the possibility of falling overboard.

With a RibCom intercom system, crew can converse clearly and comfortably from their normal position within the boat. Thanks to the noise reducing technology of the microphones, wind and engine noise are much less over the intercom than the surrounding environment.

This makes the whole experience more pleasurable and safer.

Geck GRF10 Communications Unit

Gecko GRF10 Communications DevicesThe GRF10 is designed specifically to integrate with the GMSH (Gecko Marine Safety Helmet), to provide a bespoke headset for use in radio communications.

Key features of the Gecko GRF10 include:

  • Waterproof
  • Noise-cancelling microphone allowing for use in areas of very high noise
  • Earphone tailored to speech bandwidth - clearer transmissions requiring less volume
  • Press-To-Transmit (PTT) Switch

The Gecko GRF10 can be fitted to any Mk10 Gecko Marine Safety Helmet through the left ear aperture in a matter of seconds, connecting to a hand-held radio or plug-in console system.

Ribcom Intercoms

A RibCom is a worthwhile investment in comfort and safety for your boat

The RibCom is a full duplex wired intercoms, intended for marine use and allowing communication at all times between two or more users (as opposed to a radio transmitter, allowing only one person to speak at a time).

RibCom2RT-HT51The RibCom enclosure, controls and cable entry glands are waterproof to IP67. The system is suitable for use in wet and noisy environments and comes with mounting plates for easy installation.

An important safety feature of the the RibCom is the pull-free in-line waterproof plugs and sockets to the crew headsets. This allows the crew to detach themselves from the system in the event of an emergency or boat inversion.

The RibComRT interfaces to a radio. By applying pressure to the Press to Talk pad (PTT) the intercom traffic will be transmitted over radio or other broadcast medium.

In effect the radio will act as an additional member of the intercom circuit and so whatever traffic is received over the radio will be made available to all the intercom users and so improving the situational awareness of the crew.

How to Order

Push-to-talk systemWhen ordering a RibCom, the following descriptors should be used:

Item name, ie RibCom, followed by the number of users. The standard is two but up to a maximum of four users can be specified. Finally "RT" if the intercom is to be interfaced to a radio and the radio type.

A standalone three person intercom would be described as a RibCom3.

A two-user intercom interfaced to a Simrad HT51 would be described as a RibCom2RT-HT51

Simply plug the additional RibCom into the accessories socket on the right hand side. Like the standard unit the slave can have up to a maximum of four users. Another installation for example might be a RibCom2 and Slave4 this would be sufficient for six positions

Video-Comms Devices

Using the most advanced marine safety helmet (Gecko MK10), we have incorporated the GEC (Gecko Eye Camera)

This is a built in recorder of video and sound, Gecko Eye Cameraoperated from a single switch. This in turn can be downloaded to a laptop/pc for filing or editing using a plug & play system.

This provides recorded data, which can be imperative for analysis of emergency situations, admissable evidence, carrying out inspections, or information gathering for future training.

A neoprene pouch is secured onto the upper arm enabling hands-free operation.

Using the self-edit facility, storage of up to two hours, high quality footage is possible from battery life, after which the battery can be recharged using a 12-volt suppy.

The information is recorded direct to a CF card, which can be transferred to a PC (with standard Windows software), for editing. This provides recorded data which can be imperative for emergency situations, carrying out inspections, criminal evidence, or information gathering for future training.
